A measure headed to the full Idaho House would double the amount of sales tax revenue earmarked for the state’s highway system. The bill advanced Tuesday by the House Transportation Committee funnels 2 percent of state sales tax revenues – or about 36 million dollars – to an Idaho Transportation Department fund dedicated to expand the state highway system and address traffic congestion. The fund currently receives 1 percent. Republican Committee Chairman Joe Palmer says sales tax collections are growing by about 6 percent per year, with a fair amount coming from transportation-related products, including new and used cars, tires, and vehicle parts.
