Crews working to contain the more than 23,000 acre Green Ridge wildfire in southeastern Washington have had success in tracking down and suppressing spot fires sparked by high winds over the weekend.
The blaze, which has joined a portion of the more than 80,000 acre Lick Creek fire southwest of Asotin, has crossed the Tucannon River and firefighters are using the Lick Creek burn area and the end of the 22 Road to prevent the blaze from moving north toward Stentz Spring.
Fire managers have been able to take advantage of cooler temperatures and higher humidity over the last few days. However, another heat wave is expected to move into the region over the next few days, which could influence fire behavior.
The Green Ridge Fire is listed at 15 percent contained, while the Lick Creek Fire is still listed at 90 percent contained.
Community meetings for the Green Ridge Fire and Lick Creek Fire are planned for tonight (Tue) at the Pomeroy High School and tomorrow (Wed) night at the Columbia County Fairgrounds in Dayton. Both meetings begin at 7pm and the public is welcome to attend. More information is available by calling 509-542-7964. (InciWeb)
