Former Lewis-Clark State baseball player Donnie Ecker has been named Major League Baseball’s Coach of the Year by Baseball America.
Ecker was credited with helping improve the San Francisco Giants offense into one of the best at the Big League level this past season.
He has since taken a bench coach and offensive coordinator position with the Texas Rangers.
Ecker played one season with Lewis-Clark State during the 2007 season and helped the Warriors to the national championship. Primarily a backup outfielder and courtesy runner, Ecker hit .238 with LC and was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 22nd round of the 2007 MLB draft.
He retired from playing in 2012 and began his coaching career briefly at the high school level before moving to professional coaching.
