CLARKSTON, WA – A female juvenile was transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center after she was hit by a pickup at about 4:42 p.m. yesterday afternoon. The incident, which happened at the intersection of 6th and Chestnut in downtown Clarkston, remains under investigation, according to Clarkston Police Chief Joel Hastings.
“The driver of a Toyota Tundra was at the stop light traveling from the 500 block of Chestnut, turning south onto the 1000 block of 6th Street. During the turn, the vehicle struck a juvenile pedestrian in the crosswalk,” Hastings says. “The driver of the vehicle told officers that when he was turning, he did not see the pedestrian and she came out of [nowhere]. He believed the crosswalk light was red for pedestrians.”
Hastings adds that a witness told officers he saw the juvenile run through the crosswalk when the light was red for pedestrian traffic.
The condition of the female is unknown.
