MOSCOW, ID – Moscow Fire Department crews responded to a structure fire in the 200 block of 2nd Street in Moscow this afternoon at about 4:30 p.m. Mutual aid from the Pullman Fire Department, Potlatch Fire Department, and Genesee Fire Department also responded, along with the Moscow Police Department.

“First arriving emergency personnel reported heavy fire and smoke conditions in the rear of a 2 story residential converted to commercial office building and was threatening two other structures. Fire Department personnel began fire suppression efforts upon arrival,” a press release states.

The main fire area was confined to the 1st floor rear addition area and kitchen and also the 2nd floor rear of the building in an apartment area.

“The floor in this area was partially collapsed as well as the roof in the same general area,” officials say.

Once the fire department extinguished the fire, the Moscow Fire Department Fire Marshal initiated an investigation into the origin and cause of the fire.

“At this time the fire is still under investigation, however the fire does not seem to be suspicious in nature at this time. Further investigation will continue,” the press release says.

No injuries were reported. No one was in the building at the time of the fire.

The fire department remained on scene for over five hours.
