OLYMPIA, WA – Southeastern Washington State Representative Mary Dye (R-Pomeroy) has proposed legislation which would establish a new Washington State Commission on Boys and Men. House Bill 1270 would be the first state-level commission of its kind in the United States.

Dye says there are many issues which impact boys and men in the state.

Dye says she wants to get to the bottom of this and find out why these rates are so high. HB 1270 would help to create policy to rectify the disparities.

Richard Reeves, author and senior fellow from the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C., is considered an expert on the subject.

Reeves says there are numerous commissions which focus on girls and women and there should also be a focus on boys and men.

The proposed legislation was referred to State Government & Tribal Relations.
