PULLMAN, WA – A Pullman High School student is facing third-degree rape charges stemming from an incident that allegedly happened off campus between him and another PHS student.
According to the Moscow-Pullman Daily News, the Whitman County Prosecutor’s Office charged the 16-year-old male suspect with rape in the third degree in December for the alleged sexual assault that occurred in early September.
The case gained attention when Pullman High students walked out of class and marched to downtown Pullman in late September, protesting what they felt was an inadequate response from the school district and its reaction to the student’s claim.
The alleged sexual assault happened after school hours Sept. 1 at a residence off campus.
Pullman police finished its investigation into the incident in October and the case was forwarded to the Whitman County Prosecutor’s Office, which then charged the teen suspect with rape in the third degree. The suspect is scheduled for a readiness hearing Feb. 16.
