MOSCOW, ID – A GoFundMe has been set up for a family who lost their home in a fire over the weekend. Monica Pine, a beloved Administrative Financial Specialist at the University of Idaho Theatre Arts Department, and her two children lost their home in the apartment fire at about 5:30 p.m. February 5th in the 300 block of North Washington Street.
“Pine and her two children will have an easier time finding a new place to call home thanks to the generosity of her community,” GoFundMe officials say.
Her co-workers in the Theater Arts Department have raised more than $2,000 so far to help Pine get situated.
“The Moscow Fire Department Fire Marshal and Fire Administration will be working with the family in [regard] to education and prevention,” a press release stated.“The first engine arrived in 4 minutes. First arriving emergency personnel reported smoke…from the 1st-floor apartment of a 2 story 4 [unit] apartment building. Fire Department personnel began fire suppression efforts upon arrival. All units in the building and adjacent to the building were evacuated. The fire was contained [in] the 1st-floor apartment. Once the fire department extinguished the fire the Moscow Fire Department Fire Marshal initiated the fire investigation into the origin and cause of the fire. At this time, it is believed the fire…originated in a bedroom area location. The investigation is ongoing,” Fire Chief Brian Nickerson said.
The apartment is considered to have suffered significant damage and is uninhabitable. The fire did not impact the remaining apartments and the residents returned to their apartments.
The victims are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
