CLARKSTON, WA – Law enforcement officials responded to the 1600 block of 9th Avenue in Clarkston last night just before 8:00 p.m. for a reported domestic dispute involving firearms and threats of “suicide by cop.” According to a press release from the Asotin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies, with the assistance of Clarkston Police, contacted the female involved in the incident outside the residence.
“Deputies were then advised the male subject was in the residence and armed with an AR style pistol. Efforts were made to communicate with the male subject,” officials say.
The man was identified as 41-year-old Daniel Christianson of Clarkston.
“Christianson would call 911 and talk with Whitcom Dispatchers. Dispatchers then advised that Christianson was making threats to “shoot it out with the cops” or “suicide by cop.” Christianson continued to make statements that he was going to come out of the house and start shooting. In talking with Christianson, it was found that he wished to speak with Asotin County Deputy Peters,” the press release says.
Peters, who was off duty at the time, was contacted and responded to the scene. Medics were also dispatched to standby.
“Deputy Peters was able to establish contact with Christianson and de-escalate the situation and was able to take Christianson into custody without incident,” the press release adds.
No shots were fired and there were no injuries reported.
Christianson was charged with four counts of Intimidating a Public Servant, a Class B felony. He was booked into the Asotin County Jail.
