CRESWELL, OR – Jorgen Lie Viken finished the second round with a share of the individual lead, but the Lewis-Clark State Men’s Golf team dropped to third at the Cascade Conference Golf Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, at Emerald Valley Golf Club. The Warrior women sit comfortably in second place.
Viken started where he left off in the first round with a birdie on the first hole but struggled down the stretch.
Five bogeys and another birdie gave Viken a round of 3-over 74 and dropped him into a share of the lead with Caden Stubbs of Bushnell. Freshman Bryden Brown moved into the top ten with a round of 74.
“Today was a struggle, the course got away from us quick,” LC coach Zach Anderson said. “Jorgen is still holding onto the lead and we are within striking distance as a team. Hoping for a strong finish tomorrow.”
The No. 20 Warriors could not keep up with strong days from Bushnell and No. 10 UBC and dropped to third place of what has become a three-horse race. LC State put up a team score of 303 and find themselves 12-strokes behind the leading Thunderbirds.
British Columbia holds an eight-stroke advantage over Bushnell after shooting a team score of 291. Bushnell shot 293 as a team.
Alexandra Schmidt bounced back after a rough first round to post a 1-over 73 to move into fourth place. Schmidt had birdies on Nos. 7 and 17 with bogeys on Nos. 4, 6 and 14.
“A bright spot today was Alex’s round,” Anderson said. “A strong round today really helped our women’s team as they sit comfortably in second.”
The rest of the Warriors currently reside in the top ten of the leader board as well. Deana Caruso holds onto a top-five position with a 7-over 79. Kyla Currie and Kylee Hughes made it back-to-back rounds of 80 to start the tournament and have a share of eighth place. Dallis Shockey sits in 10th after an 81.
Jessica Ng leads No. 1 British Columbia with a comfortable lead after two rounds. Ng shot a 2-over 74 to hold a one-shot lead over teammate Sonja Tang. The Thunderbirds occupy the top three spots on the leaderboard headed into the final round.
The Warriors are in second place, 36-strokes behind leading UBC. Oregon Tech is in third place, 37-strokes behind LC State.
The third and final round will tee off at 8 a.m. PT on Wednesday.
