KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jorgen Lie Viken capped his successful Warrior career as an NAIA Second-Team All-American, announced by the national office on Wednesday. The senior is just the second LC State Men’s Golfer to be named to the second team in program history, joining Connor McCracken who did so in 2009.
“What a deserving honor for Jorgen and our team,” Head Coach Zach Anderson said. “His hard work has really paid off this year with two individual wins, all-conference, Golfer of the Year, making the cut at nationals along with academic honors. All-American fits right into what he has done this year. Jorgi is a leader on our team and the example of what a coach asks for in a player. I will miss having him on the team next year, but I know that he will have continued success on and off the golf course.”
Viken became the fifth different Warrior Men’s Golfer to earn All-American honors after a dominant 2022-23 season. The Kongsberg, Norway native was the Cascade Conference Golfer of the Year after leading the CCC in conference scoring average (72.1). He won back-to-back tournaments to close out the regular season with victories at the LCSC Warrior Spring Invitational and UPS Spring Invitational. The two wins came within the same week and Viken was voted the NAIA National Golfer of the Week for his efforts.
Viken was ranked as high as No. 6 individually by Golftstat and ended the season at No. 31. He represented LC State as an individual at the 2023 NAIA Men’s Golf National Championships and tied for 37th after four rounds. He finished the year with a scoring average of 71.74. Viken was voted the LCSPY Male Athlete of the Year by his peers.
