PULLMAN, WA—The City of Pullman Fire Department will be conducting training exercises at a structure located at 1570 SE Johnson Avenue, adjacent to Mary’s Park.

• From now until June 12, the Fire Department apparatus and personnel may be on-site practicing ladder work, hose line deployment, roof operations, technical rescue, and other valuable skills.  Theatrical smoke, similar to fog, may also be used to simulate reduced visibility encountered during structure fire search and rescue.
• On June 13 and June 14, the department will conduct live-fire training. During this time, rooms within the structure will be lit on fire one at a time, and crews will enter to extinguish them.
• Additional interior training will be completed on June 15. Crews will burn down the structure.

Personnel will be on-site to monitor the fire until it is completely extinguished.  Since safety is the Fire Department’s highest priority, the weather will be continually monitored.  Should anything change that would impact the area with harmful air or the risk of fire, the training session will be terminated immediately. If the training dates change, updated notice will be provided.

Please do not be alarmed when you see smoke, fire, or Fire Department personnel working in this area on these dates. If you live or work near Mary’s Park, be sure to close your windows during the live-fire training. If you will not be at your residence or property while the training is being conducted, arrange to have your windows closed.

During these training efforts, Mary’s Park remains open. This is an important opportunity to see the Fire Department at work, practicing techniques and skills to better protect the City of Pullman’s residents and property.
