Major League Baseball has announced that Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodríguez has been named American League Player of the Month and right-handed pitcher Andrés Muñoz has been named American League Reliever of the Month for August.
The 22-year-old Rodríguez batted .429 with 19 runs, 10 doubles, 7 home runs, 30 RBI, 8 walks and 11 stolen bases in 23 August games. The center fielder recorded 13 multi-hit games, including five 4+ hit games during the month and hit safely in 20 of 23 games, including a career-high 13 consecutive contests to finish the month.
The 24-year-old Muñoz led the American League in saves (9) during the month, going 1-1 with a 1.93 ERA with 7 walks and 20 strikeouts in 14 August appearances. The right-hander also did not allow a home run in August.
