LAPWAI, ID – Firefighters from three agencies were dispatched to a grass fire in Lapwai early this afternoon during a period of gusty wind. The Ash Avenue Fire was initially reported at 1:42 p.m. behind a home in the 200 block of Ash Avenue. Crews from the Lapwai Volunteer Fire Department, Nez Perce County Rural Fire Department, and the Nez Perce Tribe Forest and Fire Management Division quickly responded to the scene.
As crews battled the fire, which was about 1½ acres, it reportedly spread to a nearby field.
Lapwai Fire Chief William Skiles says with the fast response and assistance from the other departments, “fire units were able to make short work of this fire and keep damage to a [minimum].”
There were no injuries reported and no structures were lost.
