Washington State men’s basketball redshirt-freshman Myles Rice was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this year, the Pac-12 Conference announced Monday. Rice earned the weekly award after back-to-back weekly Freshman of the Week awards at the beginning of December followed by a third honor earlier in January.
Last week, Rice led the Cougs to wins over Utah and Colorado at home for just the second time in Pac-12 history, both coming under the guidance of WSU Head Coach Kyle Smith. Rice extended his double-figure scoring streak to eight-consecutive games and is the Conference’s top freshman scorer at 15.6 points per game.
In Wednesday night’s win over Utah, Rice scored 10 points with six assists and a career-high seven rebounds. Rice averages 3.6 assists per game, 10th in the Pac-12 and second-best by a freshman, while grabbing the fifth-most steals in the Conference (1.67). The redshirt-freshman led WSU Saturday, scoring 12 of his 17 points in the second half to beat the Buffs and committed just two turnovers, while handling most point guard responsibilities.
Rice has recorded 3+ assists in 8 of his last 9 games and has recorded at least one steal in 17 of 21 games. The Columbia, S.C. native is the second-most decorated freshman in Cougar history, behind Mouhamed Gueye with five Freshman of the Week awards in 2021-22.
Washington State begins a three-game road swing this Saturday, Feb. 3, traveling to Seattle to face the Washington Huskies in the Boeing Apple Cup Series at 6 p.m. from Alaska Airlines Arena.
