2024 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Preview – Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes Announced

Warrior Track and Field opens the 2024 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships on Wednesday with 13 individual entries and five relays. LC State will look to add to its recent success with All-American honors and NAIA National titles up for grabs in Marion, Ind.

 

WARRIORS COMPETING

The Warrior women have three relays in action this week with the 4x100m, 4x400m and 4x800m, while the men will compete in the 4x100m relay and 4x800m relay. The 4x100m and 4x800m squads will run their preliminary races on Wednesday and the women’s 4x400m will race for the first time on Thursday.

 

Wednesday’s action will also feature Madigan Kelly and Ike Hopper in the prelim runs of the 400m hurdles. Jennah Carpenter will compete in the long jump before Kea Stieglitz closes out her career in the javelin in search of her third All-American honor. Brycen Brown will conclude the first day with a prelim run in the 3,000m steeplechase.

 

Lewiston native Kelly will get things started on Thursday with the prelims of the 100m hurdles. Three Warriors will run in the semis of the 800m, with Geraldin Correa on the women’s side, and Griffen Parsells and indoor National Champion Carter Gordon on the men’s side. London Kirk will take to the track for his preliminary 400m run, and Sydnie Zywina take part in the triple jump.

 

Trenton Johnson will compete in the men’s portion of the triple jump on Friday and Carpenter will look to defend her outdoor title from last season in the high jump. Event finals for all individual prelim races will take place on Friday.

 

THE DETAILS

Action kicks off on Wednesday for the three-day meet hosted by Indiana Wesleyan. Live streaming and live results will be available through naia.org.

 

DAKTRONICS NAIA SCHOLAR-ATHLETES

Ahead of competition kicking off, 12 LC State men’s athletes and 15 female athletes earned Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors. To be nominated, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended one full year at said institution.

 

Alexander Fry, Brycen Brown, Carter Gordon, Clay Shumaker, Conner May, Connor Alexander, Jacob Adams, London Kirk, Luke Sellmann, Sam Weller and Trenton Johnson represented the men, while Abigail Gorton, Abigail Peightal, Brooklyn Shell, Chloe Overberg, Emberlynn Mack, Emily Collins, Grace Dixon, Grace Osborne, Grace Tiegs, Jennah Carpenter, Kea Stieglitz, Madigan Kelly, Madison Howe, Sara Hathaway and Sydnie Zywina earned the honor for the women.
