WHITMAN COUNTY, WA—Fire crews are battling a fast-moving wildland fire along Wawawai Road near Nisqually John Landing in Whitman County. Officials say the fire is estimated at around 300 acres, and high winds are making firefighting efforts difficult.
Mutual aid and air resources are being used. Please avoid Wawawai Road and Steptoe Canyon Road if possible. The water on the Snake River will be shut down in the area so that air resources can safely get water.
The smoke from the fire has moved into the Lewis-Clark Valley and caused changes in the air quality levels.
