Lower Granite “Dan” Fire Burning Near Pomeroy

State fire assistance has been mobilized under the Washington State Fire Services Resource Mobilization Plan in support of local firefighters working to contain the Lower Granite Fire, also known as the Dan Fire, located in Garfield County, near Pomeroy.

Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste has authorized the mobilization of state firefighting resources at the request of Garfield County Fire District 1 Chief James Cleveland.

The fire, reported around 11:40 yesterday (Mon) morning, has grown to an estimated 4,000 acres and officials believe it will continue to increase in size.

As of 11:30pm last (Mon) night the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Garfield County Fire District, had reduced the evacuation order levels that were issued earlier in the day. The area under the Level 3 evacuation order is now reduced to a Level 2 “be ready to move” evacuation order, while the area previously under the level 2 evacuation order is now under a level 1 “get set” evacuation order.
