After about five weeks of rising gas prices, Idaho drivers are getting a chance to catch their breath to kick off the week.

According to the American Automobile Association, today’s average price for a gallon of regular in Idaho is $3.19 – about two cents less than a week ago, but 15 cents more than a month ago and eight cents more than a year ago. The national average currently sits at $3.14 per gallon, which is also two cents cheaper than a week ago.

Inexpensive crude oil is helping keep gas prices from skyrocketing further. The West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude is currently trading near $71 per barrel, which is about the same as a week ago, but nearly $4 less than a month ago and $5 less than a year ago.

Motorists in Lewiston are paying the highest price for a gallon of regular in Idaho at $3.26, while Franklin has the state’s lowest average price at $3.05.
