A panel working in the interests of Idaho wine makers and grape growers is crafting legislation aimed at helping grow the industry.

One of the bills sought by the Idaho Wine Commission would allow businesses to create their own private label.  Should that legislation pass, restaurants and companies could purchase wine from local wineries and put the name of their own business on the packaging.

The commission is also working on a measure to streamline the licensing process for wineries.  Idaho’s 52 wineries produce about 250,000 cases of wine with grapes grown on roughly 1,300 acres in the Gem State.

The 2018 Legislative session begins January 8th.  (KIVI TV)
