No perimeter growth was expected Friday on the Rattle Snake Creek Fire, as crews continue to gain ground on the wildfire south of Riggins.

The 8,200 acre blaze is now 57 percent contained, as firefighters on Thursday used direct and indirect methods to contain hot spots along the south and east sides of the fire. Suppression repair and removal of equipment continued on the north side of the fire, whose behavior was low with small pockets of fuels burning within the perimeter.

Friday’s expected cooler temperatures will keep fire behavior low with creeping and smoldering. Light smoke may be visible as unburned fuels are consumed, and firefighters will continue indirect tactics, strengthening the contingency line on the south side.

Temporary flight restrictions remain in effect around the entire fire area, and the public is reminded that it is both unsafe and illegal to fly drones near wildfires. (USFS)
